Disney Cruises are by far one of the best ways to experience the magic of Disney while also exploring new destinations. And since some destinations and Port of Calls are international, one of the most popular questions asked is if you need a passport to sail on a Disney Cruise.

What do you need to board a Disney Cruise?
All guests boarding a Disney Cruise will need to provide proof of citizenship, as well as a government-issued photo ID.
But the specific documentation required depends entirely on what countries you’re visiting and your cruise’s origin and final destination.

Disney Cruises that Don’t Require a Passport
Cruise that starts in the United States and travels only to Canada, Mexico, The Bahamas, or the Caribbean and returns to the same United States port do not require a passport.
Here are some example Disney Cruises itineraries where you won’t need a passport:
- 3-Night Baja Cruise from San Diego
- 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from San Diego
- 4-Night Western Caribbean Cruise from New Orleans
- 4-Night Western Caribbean Cruise from Galveston
- 7-Night Eastern or Western Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral
- 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
- 5-Night Bahamian Cruise from Miami with 2 stops at Castaway Cay
Even if your itinerary doesn’t require a passport, it’s always recommended to bring one just in case you get stuck at one of the foreign Ports of Call due to an emergency.
The Bahamas, Caribbean, Pacific Coast, Bermuda, or Canada (Round Trip Cruises)
Cruises that sail from/to Port Canaveral, Miami, Galveston, San Diego, San Juan, New Orleans, and New York:
In order to sail on one of these cruises, you must bring the following:
- State-Issued Birth Certificate (original or copy) AND Government-issued Photo ID (if over the age of 16)
- Puerto Rico birth certificates issued prior to 7/110 are no acceptable
- Hospital-issued birth certificates are not acceptable
- Original Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State AND Government-issued Photo ID
- Original Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services AND Government-issued Photo ID

Disney Cruises that Require a Passport
Here are all of the Disney Cruises where a passport is required for all guest. So if you plan on taking one of the the cruises below, be sure to have a passport that is valid for several months after your sailing.
In order to sail on one of these cruises, you must bring the following:
- Passport (must be valid up to 6 months after the completion of your cruise)
1. European
These cruises travel to Iceland, United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Ireland, and other northern European countries.
2. Mediterranean
These cruises travel to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain, France, Portugal, Turkey, and other parts of southern Europe.
3. Transatlantic
These cruses travel between the United States and Europe.
4. Transpacific
These cruises travel between the United States and Canada. Generally, these cruises are between Vancouver, Canada and Hawaii. Plus, there are new itineraries that will also visit exotic locations in the South Pacific such as Fiji, American Samoa, Sydney, and Auckland, just to name a few.
5. River Cruises with Adventures by Disney
These cruises travel down European rivers such as the Danube.

If you are flying into Vancouver, then yes, you will need a passport.
Yes. Disney Cruises that visit Hawaii either end or begin in Vancouver, Canada.
No, you will not need a passport to visit Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. You will only need a photo-ID (if over the age of 16).
No, you will be denied boarding if your passport is expired. Also, please be sure that your passport is valid up to 6 months after your cruise if you plan on visiting certain foreign countries.
No, you do not need a passport for a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. A state-issued birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID is acceptable. This applies to 3, 4, and 5 night cruises from Port Canaveral, Miami, or Galveston that only visit Nassau and/or Castaway Cay.
